In an age where celebrity CEOs and Marvel superheroes dominate our imaginations, the church desperately needs to recover the stories of saints like Perpetua and Felicitas. These two young women—one a noblewoman, the other a slave—walked calmly into the Roman arena in 203 AD, choosing faith in Christ over safety, status, and survival. Their courage, sacrifice, and joy stand in stark contrast to today’s models of leadership that chase influence over intimacy with God. If we want to form resilient Christian leaders in a secular culture, we must choose our heroes wisely—and let their stories shape the way we lead, serve, and finish the race.
